FIVE PRACTICES OF A FRUITFUL CONGREGATION studied by the Council last year. We will try to fit all the reports under each chapter heading.
WE ARE A FRUITFUL CONGREGATION BECAUSE WE PRACTICE:
EXTRAVAGANT GENERORSITY —
FINANCIAL REPORT – Tom Stephenson reported for Finance Chairperson Walter Riedel, who could not be here tonight. The Budgeted Financial Statement presented tonight shows an Income of $742, 904.80 with Expenditures of $743,874.88 leaving a Deficit of $970.08 for the Year ending December 31, 2009. The Stewardship Campaign for Year 2010 was held late this year and we do not have all the Pledges in to date. We are working on the Budget for Year 2010. We are trying to consolidate the Trustees Funds with all other Funds and report together on one Financial Statement. This will be checked out thru the Conference as to how it will affect our Apportionments.
EDUCATION BUILDING COMMITTEE UPDATE – This Committee met with the Architects for a Workshop Session. Jerry said they discussed many good ideas for the Education Building. The Architects will be coming back with plans but nothing will to forward until it is presented to the Congregation. They will also need to look at changes to Fellowship Hall – especially Offices for our Staff.
Terry George suggested that we include the Memorial report in this portion of the new Agenda format. Jerry said Stewardship would fit here too.
PASSIONATE WORSHIP — Beverly Millsap said the Worship Committee had moved its meeting time to the Third Monday at 6:00 P. M. A Lenten Service will be held on Ash Wednesday during WNL Time. The Acolyte Program is being renewed. The Choir Program will be on Palm Sunday.

Wesleyan Small Groups – Jerry and Christy Day will be getting together to discuss and work on organizing Small Groups along the line of those studied at the Ginghamsburg United Methodist Church Conference in Ohio. We need to start some Daytime Bible Studies.
RADICAL HOSPITALITY:
EVANGELISM — Davie Thompson said they are going to have a booth at “Art in the Park”. This group will distribute Lent/Easter Flyers as they did last year.
RISK-TAKING MISSION & SERVICE — AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM:
Davie reported on this After School Study Lab. This started last year and will restart again on January 25. We talked to West Orange School District and worked with them to set up this program. They deliver the 4-8 grade students by Bus to the Praise Center around 3:00 P. M.
We have 44 volunteers that rotate thru the months. We also have help from Salem UMC-a cook team. We help the children in many ways – tutoring, homework, health issues, have God time, have meal time and assist any way needed. We have about 6-11 attending – our numbers were lowered as WOS received a grant for a study program just after we started this Lab. Some times these children are looking for someone to care.
COUNCIL PLANNING RETREAT SUMMARY: Mary Tumulty lead us again this year. We met on January 8th and 9th in the Malloy Center. Friday night we met and discussed Church History thru a Slide Show – talked about memories – who we are – discovered a strong history in education, youth, and community. Saturday morning we met again looking at ways we are heading and things we might want to do. Mary will send us a written report with some ideas and suggestions. We will look at this again next month’s
OTHER REPORTS NOT COVERED ABOVE:
MISSIONS — Alice Rothrock’s Missions Report is attached. Robert Rothrock discussed ways we can get the United Methodist Men’s POD program going. We could do 3 PODS and equip them for Child Care use in Haiti. We need to let the Congregation know how much was collected for Haiti this past Sunday.
