From Our Pastor – “Happiness”

HAPPINESS– What is it? How do you get it? How do you keep it?

The Secret Society of Happy People founded in Texas has more than 14,000 members. They have declared August as Make Happiness Happen Month. We advertise all sorts of ways to be happy, and some of them involve things like alcohol. Dining establishments have made it known that during a certain time of the day you can purchase two drinks for the price of one and that is designated as “the Happy Hour” which occurs at 5 o’clock. I have heard the song made popular by country singer Allan Jackson and Jimmy Buffet declaring “It’s 5 O’clock somewhere!” I was surprised to learn that the song was co-written by Jim Moose Brown and former Little Cypress band director Don Rollins.

For a minister I find my happiest hour is the hour I am spending in worship. My mantra is not “It’s 5 o’clock somewhere”, sorry Allan and Jimmy, but it is “It’s 11 o’clock somewhere’! Find real joy in worship this month!

SO JOIN IN THE CELEBRATION! Starting the second Sunday we will be celebrating HAPPINESS in a special way in each service. But if you are really brave I would like you the take the Happiness Challenge. The challenge is to write down the happiest moment of your day each day, and then declare with me HAPPINESS HAPPENS!

God Bless see you Sunday if not before,

John
