Neighborhood/Community Outreach
Last Blast was held on Saturday, August 13th. It is an outreach activity of First United Methodist Church Orange in the Southeast District, that celebrates both the kids going back to school and summer vacation coming to a close.
A block party has been held each year since 2007 except for when Ike hit in 2008. In 2010 and 2011, the block party was moved back a month to August, and focused on our community, especially the kids.
In addition to the blow-ups, games, Bingo for adults, free food, snow cones, ice cream sandwiches, and door prizes, we had 24 community resource groups offering information on their services. Free socks/underwear were given out to 252 registered children. Free haircuts were given to young and old alike. One hundred twenty-three families registered. The Orange County Sheriff’s Department, one of the resource groups, fingerprinted 53 children for the National Registry.
Members of the church pooled their time, services, resources and hard work on this project. Despite the hot weather, a grand time was had by all.
